    7. How can I have my name added to GAWP’s Certified Testers list?

 If you are certified through GAWP, your name is automatically added to the list. If you hold a Backflow certification from another state please see our Reciprocity/Endorsement page. If you hold a National certification please see the organizations we  recognize on the above-mentioned Reciprocity/Endorsement page. If your current certification meets the requirements you can  fill out the Request Form at

    9. How do I find out what will be on the Backflow Exam?

The written exam has a 3 hour time limit and consists of 100 multiple choice questions. You are required to have a score of at least 70% in order to pass the exam. You may find the Need-To-Know criteria a helpful. Also, you can obtain more information specific to the written exam at ABC’s Testing services website:

   10. Why do I have to obtain a Backflow Tester Certification?

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been tasked by the State of Georgia to establish rules and regulations to maintain the quality of the State’s Water Resources, per O.C.G.A. § 12-5-174. To accomplish the task of Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention, the EPD has written rules to create minimum standards for water systems. The specific rules pertaining to this subject are the rules for safe drinking water. The rule specific to Cross Connections is 391-3-5-.13; paragraph (7) Certified Backflow Testing is the rule requiring certification for testing.

(7) Certified Backflow Testing. After October 1, 2004, all required field testing shall be performed by persons who are certified in the testing of backflow prevention assemblies by the Georgia Statewide Backflow Prevention Assembly Certification Program, as approved by the Division, the American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA), the American Society of Sanitary Engineers (ASSE) or the University Of Florida TREEO Center.
