GAWP is pleased to host its first virtual stormwater educational workshop:

Keeping "Green Infrastructure" Green:  Selection, Installation & Maintenance of Plants & Soil in Stormwater Infrastructure Practices

This workshop is designed to help anyone involved in the design, construction and on-going performance of green infrastructure. Gain the knowledge and skills to ensure that these practices support the soils and vegetation that are critical to ongoing water quality performance of green infrastructure practices.

To minimize the disruption to your schedule, this remote course is split into three, two-hour sessions on June 23rd - 25th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Course Description

Vegetated landscape-based stormwater (i.e. green infrastructure) practices such as bioswales, rain gardens, vegetated swales, stormwater planters, tree cells and green streets rely on healthy plants and soil to deliver efficient and reliable hydrologic performance over many years. This road to success begins with key design decisions that impact plant and soil health and on-going maintenance costs. This course will provide attendees with insights into design considerations for effective plant selection, planting plans and soil blend specifications. Installation procedures that vary from typical landscape installations will also be discussed along with planned protocols and timelines for successful, economical plant and soil maintenance. Finally, attendees will be given valuable insight leading to correct field assessment and reporting of common installation and maintenance errors.

Instructor: Mary Ann Uhlmann is the President of Urban Horticulture Consultants, a green infrastructure planning and project management company in Marietta, Georgia specializing in green roofs. She is a certified Sustainable Landscape Professional, Accredited Green Roof Professional, and a National Green Infrastructure Certification Program trainer.
