Plants play a critical role in the performance of vegetated green infrastructure practices for stormwater management. Consequently, their health - vital or poor - can act as a key indicator of actualized performance. This course will serve to provide attendees with an understanding of the challenges and best practices of plant installation and maintenance which can impact the successful performance of a vegetated green infrastructure practice. Attendees will also be provided insight into design considerations for best outcomes and key observable indicators of success or failure when executing a field inspection.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, attendees will:

  • Understand the expected benefits and performance of plants in green infrastructure practices.
  • Understand the horticultural selection process of plants in green infrastructure.
  • Be given insight into early planning and design considerations for best outcomes.
  • Understand the challenges surrounding plant material procurement and potential implications of plant substitutions to original plan.
  • Understand a well executed Plant Installation Cycle.
  • Understand key QC practices of plant growers, soil blenders and installers leading to successful vegetated practices
  • Understand the 6 Phases of Vegetated Green Infrastructure Maintenance.
  • Be able to explain the importance of a site specific 5 year maintenance plan as part of Asset Management.
  • Understand key indicators and visual cues that inspectors can use to determine compliance and conditions of vegetated green infrastructure practices.

Audience: Managers of Stormwater Depts and Water Utilities, Green Infrastructure installation and maintenance providers, Green Infrastructure Field Inspectors

 

Only employees of GAWP Corporate & Utility Members will be permitted to request invoicing. All cancellations must be received in writing on company letterhead two weeks prior to the date of the class. After the two week deadline, you are no longer eligible for refunds but substitutions are welcome. No refunds for those who register and fail to attend.
