Presidential Initiatives
It is indeed an honor to lead GAWP in the coming year. Our organization has a lot of work lined up that will keep me very, very busy!
Foremost, it is under my watch that we move into our new building in February or March of 2010. I want to stress the importance of our move into this building and what it will allow GAWP to accomplish in the years to come.
First, this facility will allow us to extend the scope of the GWWI training facility in Carrollton by offering similar classes in Atlanta. It will allow us room to host the GAWP Leadership Academy (debuting later this year, the Leadership Academy will better prepare our younger members for leadership roles as water professionals). It will also provide room and resources to hold events to help the elected or appointed leadership of our utilities become “water experts.” And that’s just for starters.
GAWP is very grateful to our utility, corporate, and individual members for making this building, and the opportunity to help us help YOU, a reality.
The primary goal for my year as President is for GAWP to be the number one source and disseminator of information for all of Georgia’s Water Professionals.
To achieve this, I am asking each of you to commit to volunteering, both on a GAWP committee and on the State-wide Water Plan process. This can include participating on water council committees, attending water council meetings, attending advisory board meetings, etc. In the near future, I will provide more information and instruction on this topic. Stay tuned.
I will work closely with the GAWP committees to be sure we provide support and deliver topics of relevance to our utility members.
I am also committed to growing our membership—strength in numbers gives us better opportunities to be heard by leadership in the State. Let’s work together to speak as one voice about the many waters of Georgia—we want to be able to deliver a sustainable water supply for generations to come.
A big thanks to all of you who make GAWP successful, and for allowing me to serve as your President for the coming year! |
